Yeah, because looking backward might allow you to see that your party was the one under GWBush responsible for initiating a war based on false premises and thereby causing more than 3,000 American deaths making you more lethal to Americans than Al Quaeda is. Looking back would also allow you to see that the ruinous economic decisions you made to finance that war and your utter lack of attention to financial regulation due to you close ties to Wall Street resulted in the near complete collapse of the American economy.
